Animal ‘terrorists’ are being blamed for sabotaging one of Ireland’s fashion exports after 5,000 mink were liberated from a Donegal farm.
The attack took place over the weekend when activists set upon a facility near Adara in south-west Donegal. They removed 5,000 of the facility’s 52,000 mink, destined to be skinned and turned into fur coats, before dispersing them around the surrounding countryside.
According to reports in the Irish Independent, The move could prove catastrophic for the local environment because the mink often eat river fish – and the release coincides with salmon spawning season in local rivers.
Co-director of the farm, Connie Anderson, said, “It is an act of terrorism. They [those responsible] are animal terrorists. What else would you call them?”
