Sony’s Playstation Move has shipped 4.1m units worldwide in mid-September, according to figures released from the Japanese giants this week.
The motion-enabled controller went on global release in Europe, America and Asia in September, with Japan following in October. Â As of this writing, 25 Move-supported titles are currently available in Europe and PAL
“The number not only shows clear success of the launch of the new motion sensing controller, but also indicates positive momentum going into the holiday season and to the year 2011,” read a Sony press release. In comparison, Microsoft had earlier announced this week that its own motion-control effort Kinect had sold 2.5m units in less than a month.
Early reports on the success of Move attributed that Sony had sold 4.1m units of Move, yet the firm clarified today that the figure is that of “global sales for the companyâ€, to retailers, in other words.
“While we don’t disclose our exact sell-through number, the key is that our retailers continue to ask for more Move units and are taking every unit we can supply them with based on their sales,” Sony explained.
