No move to Italy for Bale or to Tottenham for Newcastle's Andy Carroll, Villa to loan Bradley Nikola Zigic to leave Birmingham and Sunderland get busy.

Transfer news for Saturday, with just two days left of the January transfer window.

Inter Milan have given up their pursuit (for now) of Gareth Bale. Inter’s technical director Marco Branca has said that the European champions simply cannot match Spurs‘ asking price.

“The Tottenham president sent me a nice message saying that 40 million euros was not much for Bale. The truth is that Bale and Tottenham feel good together. And even in June that price will not be compatible with our approach,” Branca explained.

Inter had been sniffing around Bale since Spurs met the Italians in the Champions League, with Bale scoring a hat-trick at the San Siro.

Aston Villa are close to a loan deal for USA midfielder Michael Bradley, according to reports from the Press Association.

Sunderland have been busy following the departure of Darren Bent to Villa. They have finally confirmed the signing of Stephane Sessegnon from Paris St Germain on a three-and-a-half year deal for a fee of around £6m.

On Saturday they also confirmed that they’d signed Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari from Inter Milan until the end of the season. Steve Bruce’s club have also given permission for their defender Paulo da Silva to Spanish club Real Zaragoza. With 48 hours left of the transfer window, he’ll have to talk quickly.

The AP news agency report that Racing Santander’s new Indian owner Ahsan Ali Syed has reached a deal with Birmingham that will see Serbian striker Nikola Zigic head back to Spain.

Newcastle have rejected Tottenham’s bid for their England striker Andy Carroll. It is believed that the London club made an offer of around €29million.

The signing of a new contract means that Fulham captain Danny Murphy will stay at the club until the end of next season.

And finally, there’s no firm news on Robbie Keane’s situation… yet.
