The release date of the much-anticipated third installment of the Gears of War series has been set for September.
Microsoft have confirmed that the game will be available on 22 September for Xbox 360 in Europe and North America, before being released two days later in Japan.
The announcement was made at Microsoft’s X11 event in San Francisco recently and means that Gears take the coveted September slot which has previously been the preserve of new Halo shooters.
Gears 3 promises several new features including four player campaign co-op experience and a five on five multiplayer. New weapons include retro lancer, sawed off shotgun, digger launcher and the bayonet charge, while there will also be new maps available.
A feature called ‘beast mode’ has also been introduced, which will allow people take on the role of hordes of Locusts. The release was originally planned for April 2011, but was pushed back for business reasons, i.e. Microsoft needed a big AAA release for the third quarter of 2011.
