This week, Malcolm, Johnny and Rob discuss dodgy refereeing and Ireland v England this weekend, and keep an ear out for Johnny’s cracking impression of Eddie O’Sullivan.
The fallout from Ireland’s defeat to Wales is still very much a talking point and the lads begin this week’s podcast by discussing the horrendous decision to allow Mike Phillips’ try on Saturday at the Millennium Stadium.
Having been refereed by the guilty party, touch judge Peter Allan, in the past, both Malcolm and Johnny suggest that it could be a long time before we see him anywhere near an international match again.
The lads pore over Ireland’s defeat and the other games at the weekend, including Italy’s magnificent and historic win over France and a scrappy victory for England over Scotland.
There may not be anything tangible to play for next Saturday, but Ireland v England is always a big occasion and possible changes are discussed, such as the make-up of the second row and the back three and whether Eoin Reddan will be fit enough to retain his place at scrum half after his concussion on Saturday.
Incidentally, by being withdrawn after less than a minute, Reddan managed to beat Johnny’s record for the fastest substitution in an Irish international.
Malcolm happens to speculate as to what Eddie O’Sullivan would do if in charge this weekend, which prompts Johnny to deliver a startlingly realistic and hilarious impression of the former Ireland manager as the lads bring this week’s edition of the Weekly Maul to a close.
