In the last weekly maul of the season, the lads toast Ireland’s victory over England, reflect on the Six Nations as a whole and look ahead to the World Cup later this year.
There weren’t many pundits predicting an Ireland win over England at the weekend, but the lads on the Weekly Maul were and they begin the last podcast of the season by toasting a fantastic Ireland win and putting the boot in on an England side that were seemingly so confident of victory that Nike commissioned a video celebrating their Grand Slam success.
Leadership and the input of the senior players was a big aspect of Saturday’s success according to the lads, while Malcolm salutes Declan Kidney for making a brave call when deciding to start Jonny Sexton, a call that was richly rewarded on the day.
Last week, Johnny did a sterling impression of Eddie O’Sullivan and this week it is Malcolm’s turn to offer his spot on take on the current Irish coach, which provokes fits of laughter from Johnny in studio.
The lads take the time to pay tribute to a few long-serving pillars of Irish rugby, David Wallace, who Malcolm describes as ‘the Ryan Giggs of Irish rugby’ and of course, captain Brian O’Driscoll, who broke the record for the number of tries scored in the Six Nations at the weekend.
The lads finish off by discussing their favourite moments in this year’s Six Nations and assessing Ireland’s prospects in the World Cup later this year.
