Multiple video game industry insiders have confirmed that Nintendo is not only working on a Wii follow-up, but that the console may be revealed at June’s E3 conference.

According to US video game monthly Game Informer, third-party studios have been playing with development units for months and are preparing launch titles for an apparently late 2012 launch. The expected unveiling is at the companies press conference for the world’s biggest video game conference, E3, which will run from June 7-9.

Game Informer has been told that Nintendo will unveil the system at E3 in June, if not sooner. The magazine claim that the console may boast HD graphics to rival, if not surpass the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, with one source claiming: “Nintendo is doing this one right… [it’s] not a gimmick like the Wii.”

Online portal CVG (Computer & Video Games) have also spoken to a number of sources who confirmed that the prospective console will sport a newly-designed console, which apparently features a HD screen. “Nintendo’s plans sound unreal,” a source told the site.

“The hardware is even more powerful than current HD consoles and backwards compatible with Wii. The controller will be all-new and has an HD screen.”

CVG were also told that the console’s motion capabilities are “better than [Playstation] Move’s” – a statement which should rule out any controller-free Kinect-like rumours.

Nintendo have openly denied any such plans for a Wii successor, with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stating last month that the company “don’t think it’s [the Wii] at the limit.” Strong rumours also suggest that Nintendo may be planning a Wii price cut as early as May.
