The fallout from Kilkenny’s league final defeat to Dublin is set to continue with the news that the CCCC are to consider disciplining three players from Brian Cody’s side.
News of Hogan’s possible censure for elbowing Dublin’s Joey Boland became apparent yesterday, but it now seems as if John Dalton and Eoin Larkin are also in the dock for lashing out at their opponents in a very un-Kilkenny like manner during the shock defeat on Sunday afternoon.
Kilkenny’s defence of their Leinster championship crown begins on June 11 with a semi-final clash against one team from Antrim, Laois or Wexford and all three players could miss out if the CCCC decide to crack the whip on this occasion.
As Larkin was punished with a red card for his attack (see footage below) on Conor McCormack during the first half, he is likely to escape with a mandatory one-month ban, but both Dalton and Hogan could face longer penalties for incidents which were unseen by referee Michael Wadding.
Hogan clearly struck Boland with an elbow in the lead up to Eddie Brennan’s goal, while John Dalton was clearly seen to strike Conor McCormack (he must have really pissed them off) with his boot and his hurl as the teams left the pitch at half time.
Seeing as no official action was taken at the time, the CCCC have free rein to hand down whatever punishment they see fit to both Dalton and Hogan, with an eight week ban for a category three offence a strong possibility.
If they were to do so, however, the process will more than likely drag on and on following the inevitable appeal that comes with almost every decision taken by the disciplinary body these days.
