Ahead of an official announcement or even a teaser trailer, full details of potentially the year’s biggest game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, have been leaked online.

Out initial report on the game’s possible November 8 release date has also been corroborated through an extensive report from video game hub Kotaku.

In addition to confirming the game’s Autumn release, the site has discovered that the game is being developed by three studios – series stalwarts Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software.

More importantly, and more worrying for publishers Activision, it appears as though the entirety of the game’s multiplayer modes, single-player campaign and even ending (which we have decided not to detail) have been leaked by Kotaku.

Ignore the following details if you don’t wish to be spoiled ahead of the game’s unconfirmed reveal:

  • Modern Warfare 3‘s storyline is a continuation of the cliffhanger ending to Modern Warfare 2, as the US fights a surprise Russian attack. The single-player takes in 15 missions altogether, spanning city locations such as New York, London and Paris. Additional globe-hopping levels include Dubai and Mogadishu, Somalia.

  • As is customary within the franchise, multiple viewpoints will be used to tell the story of the game. Kotaku have reported that there will be “multiple throwaway roles as a Russian Federal Protective Services agent, SAS Operative, tank gunner, and AC-130 gunner”. Recurring characters include Vladimir Makarov, Captain John “Soap” MacTavish and Captain John Price.

  • The muliplayer component of Modern Warfare 3 will reportedly feature 20 maps, while there is to be two types of Spec Ops modes – Survival and Mission. Kotaku have stated that all 20 maps may not be available at launch, while the Survival Spec Ops mode is thought to be similar in structure to Call of Duty: Black Op‘s Zombie mode.

  • Reported multiplayer map titles include Brooklyn, Alps, Mogadishu, Dome, Lambeth, Seatown and Paris.

  • Possible Spec Ops missions include Flood the Market, Out of Africa and Wing Man.

With full pictures of a suggested early build of the title, it is unlikely that Kotaku’s blow-out of information is incorrect, leaving Activision with extremely red faces ahead of a perceived E3 ‘unveiling’ between June 7-9.

Development on Modern Warfare 3 has been plagued with difficulties from the start, after Activision fired Infinity Ward’s founders, Vince Zampella and Simon West upon claiming that both had held meetings with rival publishers EA.

The duo’s firing caused a mass exodus from the studio (towards the pairs newly-formed Respawn Entertainment), one of the most likely interpretations of the decision for three studios to handle the forthcoming release. Last year’s Call of Duty installment, Black Ops, has sold 26 million copies since November.
