We made a pretty bold statement a few months back, describing Battlefield 3 as the ‘shooter of the year’. It doesn’t seem so bold now.
Unlike its military shooter rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3 boasts an all-new Frostbite 2 engine and features comparably grounded action that doesn’t resemble a €300m James Bond movie.
Executive producer Patrick Bach (we met him, he’s a lovely man) was behind the controls of an enormous tank for the longest gameplay demonstration of the show thus far. Granted, we’re looking at high-end PC graphics here but the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions shouldn’t be too far off.
Could this be the year Call of Duty is finally dethroned? If EA and developers DICE can continue to supercede the high benchmark the October 25 release’s early looks have given us, it could easily happen.
