The first five round non-title in UFC history will take place at UFC 138 in Birmingham on 20 November between Chris Leben and Mark Munoz according to reports.
Some months ago UFC president Dana White announced that the UFC were looking at extending main events from three rounds to five after a number of disappointing outcomes to fights.
The draw between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch along with the controversy surrounding the Lyoto Machida and Rampage Jackson decision led the UFC to examining this possibility.
The honour will fall to Chris Leben and Mark Munoz of contesting the first five round main event which will surely be an all out war given the aggressive fighting styles of both men involved.
Both men are coming off impressive victories with Leben coming off a devastating knockout of Wanderlei Silva while Munoz took a decision against former number one contender Demain Maia.
This fight was chosen to be the first five round non-title fight because White believed it was only fair to competitors who had already been in training camps and had been mentally preparing for a three round fight.
There are three other bouts which might influence the potential futures of Leben and Munoz. Vitor Belfort goes in to battle with Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133, with former number one contender Chael Sonnen taking on Brian Stann at UFC 136, then, later in the year, Michael Bisping will face off with The Ultimate Fighter coaching rival Jason Miller.
