Middleweight opponents Chris Fields and John Redmond had to be forcibly separated in a dramatic weigh-in at The Square in Tallaght ahead of Saturday night’s Cage Contender X event.

Fields is the defending champion and hot favourite to emerge victorious in tonight’s clash at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.

There has been a lingering resentment between the duo – they were originally due to face off in March this year, when Fields was forced out through injury – and the enmity was all too apparent at The Square on Friday.

Redmond recently released a video in which he smashed a heavy-bag covered with the logo of Fields’ SBGi team, and the pair were quickly engaged in a pre-fight-night battle before security intervened.

The main event will see Owen Roddy, the featherweight champion, take on Ben Davis, but things were much more laid back for this weigh-in, with the level of respect between the pair all too apparent as they shook hands and posed for photos.

The action will commence at the National Basketball Arena at 7pm tonight, and some tickets will be available from the door if you fancy seeing a bit of the real action of Cage Contender X.
