New Zealand 40-7 South Africa

Dan Carter regained the All-Time Test points record from Jonny Wilkinson with ten points, while wingers Cory Jane and Zac Guildford crossed for two tries apiece in a commanding performance against a depleted Springboks side.

It was the second successive humiliating defeat in seven days for Peter de Villiers’ outfit, casting further scrutiny on his decision to leave 21 apparently ‘injured’ players behind for their away tests in the competition.

Wearing their traditional black jersey with a controversial white collar to mark their first and only World Cup success of 24 years ago, Graham Henry’s side delivered a display that will make ominous viewing for any side intent on causing an upset and claiming the Webb Ellis Trophy in the Land of the Long White Cloud later this year.

Wyatt Crockett and substitute Colin Slade added further touchdowns for the All-Blacks, while Springbok captain John Smit crossed for his side’s only try in the first half. The competition continues with the meeting of New Zealand and Australia in Auckland next Saturday.
