Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions claims a possible mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Amir Khan could take place in the final quarter of 2012.

Mayweather first has to beat WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz on September 17, and Khan will defend his IBF/WBA junior welterweight titles on December 10 in the US.

In December, Khan will likely face veteran Erik Morales – as long as the Mexican legend beats Lucas Matthysse on the Mayweather v Ortiz undercard, or the Olympic silver medalist could go up against Robert Guerrero – if he comes through Marcos Maidana on August 27.

If Khan pulls through in December, he will make his welterweight debut on a March date in the UK. Reports have been suggesting that Khan is finding it tougher to cut the necessary weight as his body fills out as he gets older.

“Mayweather is the fight Khan is moving towards and Mayweather wants the fight. Floyd fights Victor Ortiz next month and Khan has to get through a couple of guys first, but after that this fight is likely. It will be huge — Khan is good enough,” Schaefer told the Daily Mail.

However the real fight almost evert fan of boxing wants to to see is for ‘Money to get in the ring with Manny Pacquiao. The two sides have been trying to make a fight for the last two years, trading barbs through the media and never quite seeming to make any progress.

If Mayweather wins in September, Schaefer will once again sit down with the fighter to discuss a possible Pacquiao super fight.
