Shane Long is out of the Ireland team to face Slovakia tonight in the crucial Euro 2012 qualifier after pick up an injury in training.
The West Brom striker had been chosen ahead of Kevin Doyle to partner Robbie Keane up front at the Aviva tonight but a calf strain has put paid to his starting berth.
Instead, it will be Doyle who will rekindle his striker partnership with Keane. Not a bad replacement to have, isn’t it?
Long’s injury is believed to only be a slight strain to his calf and that there is a possibility he will be available for selection against Russia on Tuesday night.
