Gameweek 6 review

Many a fantasy manager was thrown off this weekend by the omission of Wayne Rooney from Manchester United’s starting line-up against Stoke with a hamstring injury that was kept under wraps until shortly before kick-off.

Those of you with a sharp eye on the Twittersphere, however, would have spotted the potential for Rooney’s absence on Friday night as Wazza’s missus Colleen tweeted about watching a Beyonce DVD on the couch with Wayne when he would have been with the rest of the United squad in a hotel in Stoke if he was going to face the Potters.

We’re not sure what Wayne would have been more horrified about – the reaction of Fergie to Colleen making his whereabouts public, or the fact that she had informed her 373,000+ followers that he was watching a Beyonce DVD.

In any case, Rooney’s absence opened up the floor for others to impress and for once this season, proceedings weren’t dominated by both Manchester clubs. Star man for the weekend was Newcastle’s Demba Ba, who struck not once, not twice, but thrice against Blackburn at St. James’s Park, his first goals for his new club.

That contribution amounted to 17 points for Ba, two better than wiry Chelsea midfielder Ramires, whose two goals against Swansea were overshadowed by the Jekyll and Hyde performance of Fernando Torres.

Arsenal’s Robin van Persie also contributed a brace for Arsenal against Bolton at the Emirates for 13 points, while team-mates Alex Song and Aaron Ramsey chipped in with ten points apiece. Staying in North London, Rafael van der Vaart also weighed in with ten points, which was one less than Aston Villa’s Barry Bannan, who scored well thanks to a coolly-taken penalty at Loftus Road.

Champion J-League

After a word of warning in his ear last week, Robert Leavy proved he can walk the walk as well as talk the talk and maintained his position atop the J-League after his outfit, FC Clunge, returned a solid 49 points.

Declan McAnallen’s BlueSteal Elite follow closely in second after a decent 53 points, while Clive Earley’s Derryowen Hawthorns just managed to break the 400-point barrier after an admirable 56 points this week. Making up the rest of the top five are Joe McGeary’s Slamcock Rovers in fourth and Niall Gilligan’s The Bit O’Red in fifth place.
