George Hook seeks tweet revenge on Brian O’Driscoll

Old sparring partners Brian O’Driscoll and George Hook were at each other’s throats once again on Twitter at the weekend.

The Irish captain and the larger than life (both in size and in personality) pantomime villain-like RTE pundit have never been the best of buddies and went to war on the social media site after O’Driscoll praised the performance of pundits David Wallace, Shane Horgan and Frankie Sheahan on RTE’s highlights programme of Wales v France on Saturday evening.

“Finally RTE have some professional players as pundits who can give some insight into the game WE play these days. #abouttime,” tweeted O’Driscoll, a critique that seemed to squarely be aimed at Hook, who is no longer involved in rugby as a coach but has no problem dishing out constant and damning criticism of the current Irish team and coaching set-up from his comfy seat in the studio.

Hook retweeted O’Driscoll’s post before going on to defend his punditry in his own inimitable style, tweeting: “@BrianODriscoll believes only Presidents can comment on elections; accountants on NAMA; doctors on obesity; and his mates on rugby!!

He later backed up his original defence with further tweets which read: “Does international coach at RWC, provincial coach at Connacht, and video analyst to two irish coaches count ??” and “Interesting that he considers a former Irish full back, a NZ provincial player and an international coach unqualified.”

It is not the first time two of Irish rugby’s most well-known personalities have clashed in public. O’Driscoll has previously said that those who matter pay no attention to Hook, while in recent days, Hook called on the Irish captain to retire from the game.

We’re with the Irish captain on this one George. Occasionally entertaining you may be, but the constant negativity is wearing a tad thin, as is your unique ability to change tune at the drop of a hat depending on the circumstances.

And as for the sketch below? Perhaps your worst crime yet.
