It’s that time of the week again – our countdown of the best five goals we’ve seen from around the world over the last few days.
5. Lucas (Sao Paolo v Bahia)
If FIFA 12 is any indication (and of course it is), you can forget about Ganso or Neymar; the next hot property from Brazil is set to be Sao Paolo’s 19-year-old wunderkind Lucas. With this fantastic goal from the weekend, he’s already 80% more interesting than his Liverpool namesake.
4. Wendel Geraldo (Al-Ittihad v Quadsia SC)
A week after an incredible solo goal from Abdulrahman Alsanea of Al-Hilal, we’re back in the Saudi league to showcase an incredibly innovative strike from Al-Ittihad’s Wendel Geraldo – the backheel bicycle kick. Nope, we didn’t think it was possible either and the goal would’ve been our number one pick had it not been wrongly ruled for offside.
Perhaps the referee could not fully comprehend was he was witnessing and blew his whistle in disbelief – either that or he made an absolutely terrible decision.
3. Otar Martsvaladze (Volga v Tom Tomsk)
We’re not even going to try translate this guy’s name but his cheeky nutmeg and sublime finish can be appreciated by all. This strike was an absolute belter.
2. Ryan Taylor (Newcastle United v Everton)
It’s fair to say that nobody expected to see Newcastle United in third spot and unbeaten in the Premier League at this stage of the season and similarly, we’d wager that nobody knew Ryan Taylor had goals like this in him. Easily the best finish of the Premier League weekend, with apologies to Anthony Pilkington on Norwich. Skip to 0.38 for the gorgeous goal.
1. Marama Vahirua (Monaco v Le Mans)
Yes, Monaco, they of the incredibly beautiful but tiny capacity stadium, are now slogging it out in Ligue 2 after years in the Champions League. Yet the Leeds United of French football are doing their very best to battle it out with the big boys, and goals such as that of Maram Vahirua’s below should ensure that they won’t be forgotten just yet.
