Estonia’s star striker Tarmo Kink has claimed that the player he is most afraid of is our misfiring winger Aiden McGeady. Really.
The Spartak Moscow man, who has two goals and 10,000 poor crosses in 44 appearances in green, has been identified as the dangerman by Estonia’s chief goal threat.
“I am afraid of Aiden McGeady, not Robbie Keane,” said the Middlesbrough striker in today’s Irish Independent.
“McGeady is the big danger to Estonia at this moment in time. For me, he is the main man in Ireland’s attacking system and style. We will respect Keane and Damien Duff but we will be afraid of McGeady.”
This has to be good news for us because if they are focused on McGeady then there is a good chance we can get some joy down the other side.
But in fairness to Kink, he was keeping things under control yesterday, and saying all the right things.
“We are talking history here with this game, but I am not over-reacting,” said Kink. “I know what is at stake on Friday and in Dublin next Tuesday, but I am calm, for now anyway.
“This game has caught the public’s imagination. Everybody here loves football now and that is nice, but this is a big game for Ireland as well as for Estonia.
“We realise that. We must also accept how difficult it is going to be to qualify against Ireland.”
We hope it is very difficult Tarmo.
