Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen has had some unspoken views about snooker recently, so he decided to make a point at his press conference today.
The 25-year-old is not happy at how the sport is being run by Barry Hearn and he lashed out at the shortened format of the ongoing UK Championship, saying that Hearn just wants to “f*** the players”.
He also accused the veteran promoter of going back on promises and only being out to make money for himself. Hearn hit back with threats of legal action and added today that he was “far too busy to worry about silly little boys making silly little comments.”
So after he beat Ali Carter handily today, Allen entered the press conference with gaffer tape over his mouth, before removing the tape and explaining his actions.
”I don’t think I said too much out of line. Obviously I swore, which is bang out of order and I apologise again for that, but I still stand by the rest of the things I said. I think there’s a lot of truth in the comments that I made,” he said.
”I’ve had lots of criticism over the years and I’m not going to change that now just because I’m outspoken and speak my mind. Other players just don’t have the balls to do it.”
And you thought snooker was a little boring sometimes.
