Last night’s UFC 141 saw two very interesting events take place: a ten second knockout and the emergence of possibly the greatest referee ever seen. Oh, and Broke Lesnar retired, so three interesting things.
Last night, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas hosted what was one of the most eventful nights in this year’s UFC calendar. Brock Lesnar fought Alistair Overeem in what was penned as a heated tie. However, the ex-wrestler Brock Lesnar was shown the floor after only 2.26 of the first round. This resulted in Lesnar retiring from the sport.
As if that wasn’t juicy enough, UFC 141 also brought us one of the quickest KO’s in UFC history. Jon Fitch was paired against Johny Hendricks in the night’s welterweight bout and many were expecting an evenly matched fight. However, as can often happen with UFC matches, a shock KO punch was delivered by Hendricks (his only punch of the match) and Fitch was sent packing.
After hitting the floor Fitch tried to regain his balance and get back up not knowing what exactly happened. The referee however, quick as light was over to break up the fight and protect Fitch from more punches (and even more humiliation). The ref doesn’t so much rush to Fitch’s aid as he pounces on him like fat chick on cake. You have to admire reactions like that. He’s a definite shoo-in for the best ref of the year award.
It’s a wonder how UFC’s ratings are going down. How can people think this is boring?
