In possibly one of the oddest fashion news stories we can recall for quite some time, Disney has begun selling t-shirts inspired by Joy Division’s ‘Unknown Pleasures‘ album sleeve.

The album cover to the 1979 debut of the post-punk band is memorable for its minimalist black and white successive pulse design. so the last place you might expect to find it is on the Disney online store.

Disney have took quite a few cues from graphic designer Peter Saville’s efforts by re-imagining the pulses – based on the first-known radio pulsar found in space back in 1967 – and altered the positioning of the pulses to mimic Mickey Mouse’s iconic silhouette.

Disney are even admitting that the source of their inspiration by stating: “Inspired by the iconic sleeve of Joy Division’s ‘Unknown Pleasures‘ album, this Waves Mickey Mouse Tee incorporates Mickey’s image within the graphic of the pulse of a star. That’s appropriate given few stars have made bigger waves than Mickey!”

So if you thought you’d never see a piece of clothing released by Disney that’s inspired by a post-punk band whose lead singer hanged himself, you were clearly very, very wrong. You can pick up the t-shirt at this link if you wish.
