It’s a match made in heaven, we reckon: Clonakilty Blackpudding, the archetypal Cork company, will sponsor League of Ireland side Cork City for the next three years.

The agreement will see Clonakilty Blackpudding’s distinctive logo displayed on the new Cork City FC home and away strips from the start of the 2012 Airtricity Premier Division in March.

Cork City kick off their first season back in the Premier Division away to UCD on Friday 2 March next, with the new strip, complete with Clonakilty Blackpudding branding, to be unveiled in advance of that date.

Both parties are going through an excellent period in their history, with the Clonakilty Food Company celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2013, halfway through the new sponsorship arrangement, and Cork City FC looking forward to their first season back in the top division of the League of Ireland since the ownership crisis saw the club come to the brink of going out of existence in 2009.

Timmy Murphy, the Chief Executive of Cork City FC, said, “As a Club the recruitment of a new premier partner is of the utmost significance. To have secured a new sponsorship partner from Cork is an added bonus.

“It is fair to say everyone is aware of how the Clonakilty brand and business has grown and developed over the last number of years and certainly as a Club we are looking forward to a productive relationship with Clonakilty Food Company over the next three years and into the future.”

Colette Twomey, Managing Director of Clonakilty Food Company, added, “We are thrilled to have come on board with Cork City FC. As an independent family owned business, we can relate to the strong sense of community ethos within the club.

“We were particularly impressed by the resilience displayed by the club and its supporters during recent times of adversity and subsequent revival. We are delighted to be able to support the Club and hopefully enable them push on to further success in the Premier Division in 2012.

“The Clonakilty Blackpudding story was built off a strong sense of quality, identity and pride; attributes we feel are also synonymous with Cork City FC. This partnership will enhance awareness of our products giving us exposure at the top level of Irish football whilst also reinforcing the importance we place on supporting our traditional Cork customer base and the wider Cork community.”
