It’s a game that’s hyped enough already as it is and the comments of Stephen Ferris ahead of Ireland v Wales on Sunday will do little to dampen the enthusiasm of Irish rugby supporters.
The Ulster flanker believes the meeting of the Celtic cousins at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday afternoon will be a ‘titanic’ clash and could go a long to deciding how Ireland fare in this season’s competition.
Lose, and there’s a big mountain to climb. Win and there’s a chance to generate some momentum ahead of the encounter with France in Paris on 11 February.
Ferris is confident going into Sunday, but with performers of the likes of Jamie Roberts and Rhys Priestland (both passed fit) in the side, he knows Ireland’s opponents are no mugs, a sentiment echoed by his teammate Jerry Flannery, currently sidelined through injury.
Flannery was impressed by what he saw of the Welsh at the World Cup, but feels that Ireland have what it takes to win and to make a good impression on the competition overall.
