Dan Parks chooses suitably low point to bring career to a close

Scotland out half Dan Parks has chosen one of the lowest moments of his career to announce his retirement from international rugby. Nice work.

Parks, the Australian-born, er, playmaker, made his 67th international appearance for the Scots at the weekend, a figure that tells you all you need to know about Scotland’s problems on the rugby field in recent years.

And having contributed to his side’s opening Six Nations defeat to England, by seeing an attempted clearing kick charged down by opposing No 10 Charlie Hodgson for the only try of the game, Parks has quickly decided that enough is enough.

Greig Laidlaw, the Edinburgh captain, is now expected to come into the side for this week’s game against Wales in Cardiff, with promising young Glasgow Warriors star Duncan Weir to be promoted to Andy Robinson’s squad.
