Thanks to Emmanuel Adebayor’s new-found sense of generosity, the Spurs striker was the man to have in your team in Gameweek 25.
Gameweek 25 review
When you take into account everything that went on in the football world this weekend, fantasy football might have been the furthest thing from the minds of many, but unfortunately there are no points awarded for avoiding handshakes, celebrating in an inflammatory fashion, getting the sack or in poor Richard Dunne’s case, dislocating one’s shoulder.
It says a lot about the amount of points on offer though, that two-goal Wayne Rooney didn’t feature on the Dream Team this week, nor did our own James McClean, who continued to ridicule Trap’s decision not to pick him in the Ireland squad with another cracking goal against Arsenal.
Top of the pile this weekend was Emmanuel Adebayor, who weighed in with a massive 21 points thanks to a goal, four assists and three bonus points in Spurs’ 5-0 drubbing. Louis Saha was the chief benefactor of Adebayor’s previously undiscovered generosity as he notched two goals, laid on another for his strike partner and collected two bonus points for a 15-point haul.
Spurs weren’t done there either as the lusciously-maned Benoit Assou-Ekotto also chipped in with a goal and a clean sheet for 13 points. You may have noticed this morning that Mick McCarthy has been sacked as manager of Wolves and one of the main reasons for his departure was the hat-trick scored by Peter Odemwingie in the 5-1 drubbing at Molineux, a hat-trick that earned the Nigerian 17 points.
Odemwingie was joined by Baggies’ team-mate Jonas Olsson who scored 13 points, the same total as Blackburn midfielder Steven N’Zonzi for his expertly-taken goal against QPR. Take a good look at this week’s Dream Team by the way because it’s the first and more than likely the last time you’ll ever come across two Wigan players in the starting XI.
Gary Caldwell (11 points) and James McCarthur (10) both got the nod for their goals in the 2-1 win over Bolton while mentions must also be given to the excellent Steven Pienaar (11 points) and the man with the distinctive forehead who proved the match-winner at Villa Park, Joleon Lescott (15).
Champion J-League
It was a pretty average weekend for the teams contesting the top of the J-League, with only two of the top five managing to beat 50 points. One of those teams, Conor Sheehy’s A Great Bunch’a Lads took the top spot from Matt Light’s Mamelodi Sundowns, while Eoin Doyle’s Sure Now did enough to remain in the bronze medal position.
Neil Kelly’s The Wet Bandits and Joe Culloty’s Stopfeedingtheyak are familiar faces in the top five, although Kenneth Patterson’s Dirty Bagels and Brian Duffy’s Fergie’s Fledglings are breathing heavily down their necks.
Champion J-League Top 5:
1. A Great Bunch’a Lads – Conor Sheehy: 1,520 points
2. Mamelodi Sundowns – Matt Light: 1,511 points
3. Sure Now – Eoin Groarke: 1,508 points
4. The Wet Bandits –Neil Kelly: 1,502 points
5. Stopfeedingtheyak –Joe Culloty: 1,492 points
