French full-back Maxime Medard might not play rugby again until next year as a result of an injury picked up against Scotland at the weekend.
Medard – the owner of perhaps the finest pork chops in sport – suffered the dreaded cruciate ligament injury at Murrayfield on Sunday and will undergo an operation that will sideline him for six to nine months.
The Wolverine lookalike posted a tweet about the diagnosis last night, which (roughly translated) read: “The operation is booked Monday and my unavailabilty will be from six to nine months.”
While the Irish players will no doubt sympathise with Medard over what is a cruel blow, they won’t exactly be disappointed to learn that he’ll be absent from the Stade de France on Sunday, even though Clement Poitrenaud is not exactly what you’d call an inferior replacement.
Poitrenaud is one of two changes made to the France side to face Ireland this weekend and as for Ireland, well, if you really need to be reminded of the team at this stage, click here.
