It will certainly come as bad news to the foodies of the internet, as World Nutella Day has been cancelled by the spread’s manufacturer Ferrero.

World Nuttella Day was a day/website set up by Nutella lover and food blogger Sara Rosso back in 2007 and since then she’s held an unofficial World Nutella Day on February 5 each year.

The unofficial day of celebration really took off thanks to the internet, and the site has been filled with great stories, recipes and other Nutella related ramblings.

However, a spanner was well and truly thrown into the works after the spread’s manufacturer, Ferrero SpA, sent Sara a cease and desist order telling her to stop.

“The cease-and-desist letter was a bit of a surprise and a disappointment, as over the years I’ve had contact and positive experiences with several employees of Ferrero SpA and with their public relations and brand strategy consultants,” said Sara.

“I’ve always tried to collaborate and work together in the spirit and goodwill of a fan-run celebration of a spread I (to this day) still eat.

“I have hope that this is not a goodbye to World Nutella Day forever, for the fans’ sake, and hopefully it will live on in one form or another in the future.”

You can find out more about the future of World Nutella Day over on the official unofficial website.

In the meantime, check out this rare Nutella advert from the VHS version of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s so bad it’s good.
