JOE’s Early Adopters looks at the latest in tech news, and today, we’re taking a look at prices for the next-gen consoles.
The prices for both next-gen gaming consoles have been set over on Amazon, but while the £599 (€699) price tag might seem a bit steep at first there are a few different things to take into account.
We wouldn’t get too worked up over the Amazon price seeing as the site has basically plucked the number out of thin air. How do we know? Well, Amazon feature a disclaimer saying that the prices are just for pre-order purposes and are subject to change.
“Please note that there are no official prices announced for PlayStation 4/Xbox One products,” reads the Amazon pre-order price pledge.
“The price stated above is a placeholder. With our Pre-order Price Guarantee, you can order now and if the Amazon.co.uk price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you’ll be charged the lowest price.”
While the €699 price tag set by Amazon might seem a bit steep you just have to remember back to when the current generations came out first. Everyone thought the prices were extortionate, but it didn’t take long for them to come down.
There’s no word yet from Sony or Microsoft on the official prices for the next-gen consoles, but we can only assume that Amazon have set the bar as high as they can so they won’t have to look for even more money off you once the consoles go on sale.
When the Xbox 360 first came out back in 2005 it cost €409. So we’d take a stab at the next-gens costing around the €500 mark. We’ll have to wait and see…
