The Kingdom and the Dubs lay down ominous markers

There was quite the amount of GAA action in both codes throughout the country today. Luckily for you, we’ve got all the results in the one place.

As far as the big ball is concerned, Kerry and Dublin served a timely reminder that they’ll probably be the two teams to beat once again this year with significant victories over Donegal and Armagh respectively.

Kerry had 11 points to spare over Jim McGuinness’ men in Killarney, while the goal-hungry Dubs, helped by a scoring blitz early on and a Diarmuid Connolly hat-trick, ran out 16-point winners over the Orchard men.

Elsewhere in Division One, Mayo’s 100 per cent record was ended by Down in McHale Park, although the controversial early sending off of Aidan O’Shea certainly didn’t help James Horan’s men.

Reports suggest that the man in black, Barry Cassidy, had something of a difficult day in Castlebar; O’Shea tweeted his dissatisfaction at the decision not long after his dismissal (since deleted), while Cassidy came in for plenty of criticism on the social networking site.

In Division Two, Monaghan and Galway beat Louth and Meath respectively, while the cheers could be heard across the whole of Kildare when the returning Dermot Earley popped over the final point of the game in a five-point win over Derry in Newbridge.

In the hurling, there were big scores across the board in Division One and precious little to choose between the teams at both Croke Park – where Cork earned a one-point win over Dublin – and Thurles, where Tipp had two points to spare over Galway.

Kilkenny had it easier with an eight-point victory over Waterford in Walsh Park, while in Division 1B, Clare, Wexford and Limerick all came out on top.
