A genius tattoo, electricity being cut off and the other Lionel Messi

Life in Italian football is never dull so here’s a trio of random things that all happened today in the not always beautiful game in Italy.

Firstly the picture, above, which is the frankly genius tattoo that has appeared on the leg of Roma’s Daniele De Rossi. In a world where most footballers tattoos are frankly awful – yes, I’m looking at you Leon Best and Stephen Ireland – De Rossi’s is class.

Now, onto more serious matters and this sounds like a story that would have been bouncing around the League of Ireland 15 years ago. It seems that the next home games for Genoa in Serie A, and Sampdoria, currently in Serie B, are in doubt after the electricity company cut off power to the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferrari, or Stadio Marassi, because the bill hasn’t been paid.

Both sides are away next weekend but a home match looms for Genoa, against Cesena, next Wednesday. This being Italy, we’re sure that some sort of arrangement will be made so the football goes ahead but it’s a bad sign when the publicly owned stadium isn’t paying its bills.

Finally, we bring you news of our latest good friend, the Cameroonian Lionel Messi. We told you last week that he was being sized up by sides in France but today’s Italian press are reporting that struggling Fiorentina want to bring at least a hint of the Argentinian’s magic to the Viola.

We don’t know if the 17-year-old defender is any good, but he is certainly in demand.
