With the Fast and the Furious series heading for back-to-back filming of its sixth and seventh installments, Hollywood is feeling the need for a rival Need for Speed adaptation.
As the racing juggernaut tends to have a sizable story mode focus for each of its yearly releases, it’s no surprise that publishers EA are touting a potential movie.
According to Variety, publishers have tapped up John Gatins (who worked on Real Steel) to develop a Hollywood pitch for the film, which is being shopped to Warner Bros, Sony Pictures and Paramount for what are expected to be bids in the low seven-figure range. Understandably, Universal have not expressed interest since they are behind the Fast and the Furious series.
The entire Need for Speed series has been running for the past 18 years and has had 18 titles, with last year’s effort – Need for Speed: The Run – acquiring Hollywood talent in the form of Sean Faris and Mad Men beauty Christina Hendricks.
In addition to Need for Speed, EA are also keen for cinematic interpretations of their franchises Dead Space, Mass Effect, Spore and even The Sims.
