The Volkswagen CC Sport is the perfect car for any business type who has a little spare time for the more important things in life. Like unbridled fun…
If you’re in the market for a new car that will leave a lasting impression when you depart from an all-important business meeting, but one that won’t leave you sitting behind a Tata Nano like a fool, then you might want to check out the all-new Volkswagen CC Sport.
Seeing as the car is pretty much classed as a four-door coupe, you’d expect to find a great deal of comfort behind a monster of an engine. Thankfully, the CC Sport delivers on both.
The interior of the car is unquestionably stunning. The sharp straight lines of the cockpit really give you a sporty feel, but the small yet neat analogue clock gently reminds you that you’re not too far away from class and elegance. There’s also a subtle mix of dark leather, ebony wood and brushed aluminium which again makes you feel like you’re behind the wheel of a grand tourer, like the Ferrari California, just, you know, not as Italian.

Even the face of the car screams at you with a certain menace of speed and power, however with a large boot and long sloping roof the business element is never too far behind. The front seats come wrapped in gorgeous Vienna Leather and the fact that they’re heated is a major bonus on our cold Irish mornings. Seriously, you’re a*se will thank you later.
Even if that big yellow thing in the sky does happen to emerge from behind the clouds (we’ve never seen it long enough to figure out what it is) then you need not worry as the Climatronic Air Conditioning will ensure that it never gets too toasty inside the cabin.
If you ding the CC Sport while attempting to park then only one of two things could have happened. You either fell into a seriously deep sleep while at the wheel, or you stupidly let the missus take control of your lovely new motor. What I’m trying to say is that it’s practically impossible to mess up the parking thanks to the car’s advanced distance control with acoustic warning tones. The ‘tones’ basically shout at you like a mad hatter if you’re edging too close to a wall, or a pram, or whatever.
Driving the car is an absolute dream, as it doesn’t require a whole lot of work to manoeuvre this large motor, even around the tight twisting streets of Dublin City. It simply cruises along on main roads at 120km in sixth gear as if it wasn’t even moving, but that’s mainly thanks to its 2.0TDI, 140HP, BlueMotion engine. Driving is only made easier by the car’s cruise control and a push button parking brake. So no more reefing the handbrake out of the floor for you, sunshine.
When it comes to add-ons, the CC Sport has a list of extras as long as your arm and you’d want to have a sit down for an hour or so to have a good proper look at what exactly is available for your model. The only problem there is you’ll then spend the next few hours trying to decide which of those extras you want, and by that time the dealership will be closed.
If you’re a ‘save the polar bears’ type of bloke then you’ll be delighted to hear that the 2.0TDI, 140HP CC Sport sits in Tax Band B and only costs €225 for your annual road tax. The motor I tested only costs around €37,000 as standard, but with the added extras like the 18 inch Interlagos alloy wheels and an “Entry” mobile phone Bluetooth system (which is activated when you ‘enter’ the car) the price slowly begins to creep up to €41,600. Which isn’t bad considering what the competitors are offering for the same price. It’s hard to pick out any faults with the CC Sport, but in the interest of fairness, I didn’t like the fact that it doesn’t have a rear window wiper – even though the rear window managed to stay surprisingly clean regardless.
So, what can we take from the whole experience with the CC Sport? The German’s actually do know how to have some fun.
