Camelot landed another great success yesterday, but he won’t be lining up against Frankel at York.
With Black Caviar now back in Australia, and unlikely to ever return, we have given up on the Aussie horse ever racing against Frankel. But the prospect of Aidan O’Brien’s super horse, Camelot, taking on Henry Cecil’s charge seemed more realistic.
But the two titans of the summer won’t meet in the Juddmonte Stakes at York in August, according to O’Brien, speaking this morning after Camelot added the Irish Derby to the 2000 Guineas and the Epsom Derby.
“Camelot seems fine this morning and ate up well. Obviously the St Leger is the race we’re looking at and he’ll either have a racecourse gallop or a race in between.
“We will do the same after all the big races and wait a week before sitting down to discuss what will happen.
“To be honest, there aren’t that many options between now and then. The Juddmonte International at York wouldn’t be an ideal prep for the St Leger as he’d be coming back to a mile and a quarter – he is a strong traveller and we worked hard at getting him to settle.”
So just the Triple Crown to look forward to then. Not too bad I suppose.
