With just one short-priced winner apiece, last week was a frustrating one for both parties in the JOE v Paddy meeting of sporting, er, maestros. Here’s the Week 10 wisdom.
Paddy got Clare’s win over Dublin in the hurling right while our own solitary success from the weekend patent was picking Richie Hogan to score a goal for Kilkenny against Galway.

Kerry to beat Westmeath by 7-9 points (10/3)
Bryan Sheehan is back in the fold for Kerry on Saturday and that alone should be enough to ensure their safe passage through a qualifier encounter against Westmeath in Mullingar. Expect the home side to put up a fight but for the Kingdom to gain the upper hand in the second half. The handicap spread is seven points, and we think that looks about right. Kerry to win by between 7 and 9 looks the value.
Bated Breath to win the July Cup (4/1)
Roger Charlton’s sprinter has been knocking on the door of some big Group 1 events for a while now. He has been second in four Group 1 events over the past 12 months, including the July Cup last year. Dream Ahead proved just too good on a couple of those occasions but he doesn’t have that rival to worry about this time so it looks like a good opportunity to finally get his head in front at the top level.
Kildare to beat the spread (-5 pts) against Cavan (10/11)
The build-up to this one on Sunday has been all about one man who shall remain unnamed and who’s unlikely to play any part. Kildare won’t lack incentives after their disappointing performance against Meath, they have used the qualifier route well in the past and they should have far too much power for the Ulstermen so we reckon they’ll have enough in hand to cover the handicap.

Tipperary -6 v Waterford (Evens)
One thing’s for sure we won’t see a hammering like we saw last year but having watched the standard of the Clare/Dublin encounter I’m not convinced that the banner, who came within an inch of beating Waterford, are at the same level as Cork who Tipp vanquished. We have a sneaky feeling with Lar Corbett back in the side that Declan Ryan’s men can not only win but win well and are worth a punt at Evens on a handicap of -6.
Lar Corbett to score first goal v Waterford (4/1)
We really don’t need to explain this one but we will! Lar Corbett has been a Messi like goal-machine in recent years knocking 4 past the same opposition in last year’s Munster final. Also, there’s no doubting that Lar, who was on the bench in the semi, will be chomping at the bit to tear in to Waterford and nail down his place for the All Ireland series. While we won’t benefit from it here it’s money back on all first goalscorer bets if the last score is from a placed ball. Lump on!
Limerick half-time, Clare full-time (4/1)
Davy Fitz is a man who could start a grudge in an empty room but say what you will about him, one thing is for sure – he knows how to motivate a team. To say that Clare are a second half team would be the lord and messiah of all understatements, the banner men are yet to lead at half time in any of their championship outings and were also behind at halftime to Limerick in both of their League outings before coming out on top. A similar result would do nicely.
