Have a few quid burning a hole in your pocket? Check out these recommendations in style, fitness and movies, tried and tested by JOE...

JOE

Every once and a while you find a few quid burning a hole in your pocket and invariably end up blowing it on an impulse buy you ultimately regret – or a night out you can’t remember.

So if you’ve just been paid, have some bobs handy and are looking for something different to splash out your hard-earned cash on, then allow JOE to make some suggestions for you.

Boss Black Watch

BossBlack

There’s a lot to be said for a nice watch, or if you can afford it, a few nice watches to go with different occasions. Some fall at the aspirational end of our pay scale, but this beautiful Hugo Boss arm piece is certainly worth the relatively small investment. The black face on black strap makes it perfect for peaking out over the sleeves of a shirt/blazer combo and oozes class for the price you pay for it.

Gagliardi slim fit jacket

GagliardiJacket

There was a time, back in the black and white days, when blazers were all pretty neutral colours that served merely as part of a suit. Nowadays leaning off the beat and track slightly and picking up a Indigo Denim jacket like this one from one of our favourite brands, Gagliardi, can brighten up your outfit without making you look like an ostentatious hipster. And nobody likes those guys. You can pick this one up on the Gagliardi site, or by dropping into Arnotts who have Irish exclusivity on the popular brand.

Optimum Nutrition Platinum PRE

PRE

There are few pre-workout supplements on the market as powerful as this caffeine and amino infused kick in the hole from the prolifically innovative  folk at Optimum Nutrition. JOE has tried it before early morning sessions in the gym and it is rocket fuel without the invariable post-session dip. It’s pricey enough depending where you pick it up, but this is a very worthwhile investment that will light a fire under you before hitting the gym.

Enough Said

There are a couple of cracking films out at the minute (both Prisoners and Captain Phillips deserve your time), but if you can find a cinema showing the late, great James Gandolfini’s near-final performance then you are in for an absolute treat. While predominately known as tough, surprisingly neurotic mobster Tony Soprano, his sweet, endearing performance in this light but touching romantic comedy will absolutely break your heart. Seek it out!

Yves Saint Laurent ‘L’Homme’ Cologne Gingembre

YSL

When it comes to our scents, us Irish men are creatures of habit… so much like our eating, socializing and general recreational habits, then. You find a particular scent that caused a young lady you may have courted at one point or another to want to rub off you suggestively then BAM – same smell for life. But it’s always worth broadening your horizons, folks and this one from ever popular, effortlessly classy French brand YSL is downright gorgeous. Light, but distinctive, make your way into Brown Thomas and have a sniff before you purchase.
