If the doors in your home open too far then you could end up whacking the handle off the wall giving yourself yet another DIY job to do. However, you can stop that with a doorstop.
If you cream a door handle off a wall then you’ll have to fill in the hole and paint over it. However, all it takes is a doorstop to prevent that from ever happening again.
What you’ll need:
Screwdriver
Doorstop
Screw
Pencil
Step 1: Make sure it fits
Before you go securing the doorstop make sure that it’s the right size and that the door handle doesn’t bang off the wall even when the stop is in place. Place it against the skirting board and open the door fully. If the door handle hits the wall then you’ll need a longer stop. Once it fits nicely, mark the doorstop with a pencil so you know where it goes.
Step 2: Unscrew the stop
Most doorstops unscrew at their base so that you can secure them to a wall. Unscrew the bottom half of the stop (known as the base plate), place your screw in the middle and with your screwdriver secure the doorstop to the mark on the skirting.
Step 3: Put it back together
Once the base plate is secure you can reattach the main body of the stop. Simply screw the top piece back onto the base plate. Give it a test run and make sure you’re satisfied with your work.
