As expected, All-Ireland Champions Clare are by far the best represented side in the 2013 All-Star selection, with over half of the XV coming from Davy Fitzgerald’s side.
The Banner captured their first All-Ireland title in 16 years in magnificent fashion in September, defeating Cork after a replay in what was one of the finest All-Ireland finals of modern times, having lost to the same opposition during the Munster Championship before reviving their season through the back door.
Clare are represented in every line of the pitch apart from in goals, where Cork’s Anthony Nash has been named for the second year in succession, while the rest of the team is made up of three representatives from Cork (including Nash) and three from Dublin, while Richie McCarthy is Limerick’s sole representative in the full-back line.
The hurling All-Stars will be presented with their awards at a banquet in Croke Park tomorrow night, where the Hurler and Young Hurler of the Year, the Gaelic Football All-Star selection and the Footballer and Young Footballer of the Year will be announced live on television.
The All-Star selection always provides plenty of talking points and while no one can question Clare’s dominance of the side, is there any individual or individuals that can feel particularly hard done by to be left out?
