Lyoto Machida looks to have put himself inline for another shot against Jon ‘Bones’ Jones with a great knockout last night.
There was a fairly appetizing card on UFC on Fox last night as Machida faced Ryan Bader and Shogun Rua beat Brandon Vera in title eliminators for both men to get a rematch again the all-conquering Jones, who has beaten both men before.
Rua knocked out Vera in the fourth round of his bout, in what many considered a listless, tired performance from the former champion.
UFC President Dana White made the decision to grant Machida the title shot at the winner of the Sptember 1st  light-heavyweight title fight between champion Jon  Jones and Dan Henderson, having deemed Machida the more impressive fighter of the two winners of the co-main event.
Machida won by second-round knockout after Bader made the mistake of trying to charge forward and Machida took him out with a shattering hook to the head.
Afterwards White said on television that Machida looks to have his “fire back.”
Rua will feel hard done by given he ran Jone’s next opponent Henderson close in the Fight of the Year in 2001.

Nevertheless Machida’s punch last night was something special and well executed as you can see.
