Bohemians forward John O’Connor won’t be available for his side’s clash with Drogheda tomorrow, but it’s not because of a tight hamstring or any other run of the mill injury.
No no, O’Connor won’t be featuring at Hunky Dorys Park tomorrow evening because he was unfortunate enough to suffer a dog bite in the build-up to the encounter with the Drogs, having only just recovered from a recent illness.
As you can see below, a team news bulletin on the Bohemians website doesn’t go into specific details with regards to O’Connor’s complaint, but you can be fairly sure the dog in question must have really sank the teeth in if it’s enough for the 20-year old to miss out.

As a result, O’Connor could well end up being mentioned in the same breath as the likes of David James and Darius Vassell as having suffered some of the more bizarre injuries in football over the years.
Unlike those two, however, it’s clear that this ailment was entirely not his fault and he won’t have to blame playing too much computer games (James) or drilling a hole in his own toenail (Vassell… seriously) for his absence.
We wish John a very speedy recovery.
