An Irishman and friend of JOE won an MMA World Middleweight title last night in Jordan.
Chris “The Killing” Fields found himself unexpectedly with a shot at the title after an injury to John Phillips, but Fields took his opportunity beating Ukrainian Pavel Kusch in the Middle-East to take the Cage Warrior Fighting Championship middleweight crown.
The Dubliner who spoke to JOE prior to the event won via TKO over Kusch at 2:05 of the third round at the Al-Hussein Youth City Boxing Arena.
Kusch who attempted to submit Fields with a couple of leglocks wore himself out as Field triumphed with his superior striking.
Fields now joins his SBGi training mate Conor McGregor as one of Ireland’s two current mixed martial arts champions.
You can catch Chris’s post-fight interview with the lads from the MMA Clinic below.
With Ireland’s Paralympians also picking up gold at world level last night it was a good weekend for Irish athletes in individual sports yesterday.
