Ireland is now the fattest it’s ever been

With over one third of Irish adults and one quarter of Irish children now overweight, the nation’s waistline is expanding at an alarming rate. And it doesn’t seem to be getting better anytime soon.

One of the country’s leading dieticians has warned that Ireland is turning into a nation of fatties after it was revealed that over one third of Irish adults and one quarter of Irish children are now overweight. Shocking stuff…

According to Dr Muireann Cullen of the Nutrition and Health Foundation (NHF), obesity is costing our government up to €4bn in treatment and recovery every year. In fairness, it’s a fair chunk of change to be shelling out every year just because some people aren’t eating the right foods or getting enough exercise.

New statistics released by the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) revealed that only four per cent of Irish school time is set aside for P.E., which is less than half of the European average, and only half of children these days exercise for four or more times per week.

Dr Cullen’s shocking statistics also revealed that 37 per cent of Irish adults are overweight with nearly one fifth being classed as obese.

So if you have a bit of a spare tyre hanging around your waist you might want to starting going for a light jog at night, before you become just another statistic.
