In what has been another eventful day in the life of Lance Armstrong, Nike have cut their ties with the American cyclist.
By Declan Whooley
Earlier today Armstrong announced that he was stepping down as chairman of Livestrong to help preserve the reputation of the charity.
It has raised over $500 million since it was founded 15 years ago, but given the latest doping revelations, the American has decided to step down, but remain on the board.
His main sponsor Nike have now decided that enough is enough.
In a short but firm statement, the US manufacturer has said it no longer wants to be associated with the cyclist.
“Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him,” it read.
They also added they will continue to support the Livestrong foundation.
