Ron Capps was extremely lucky to walk away from his dragster at the weekend when his engine exploded just as he surpassed the 300mph mark.
Surprisingly, the 48-year-old 20-season veteran of Funny Car racing didn’t seem too fazed by the explosion and he was keen to know his sprint time and top speed before being carted off to the medical tent – which you’ll hear at the end of the video.
The explosion occurred last Friday at the 803-foot mark (244m) of the 1000-foot sprint track (304m) at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California. You can check out the Michael Bay-style explosion from the 1.30 mark.
Thankfully, Ron wasn’t injured in the explosion and speaking to the L.A. Times he said: “I actually slept good [that night].”
