There was a massive party in Sligo last night as the long-awaited league title was celebrated. The game, though, was  briefly stopped by very exuberant Shamrock Rovers fans.

After a 35-year wait, Sligo Rovers could celebrate a league title again last night. And they did so in some style. The title was wrapped up last week so last night’s game with Shamrock Rovers didn’t really matter. In the end the departing Gary Twigg gave the visitors a 2-0 win but the game was briefly stopped in the first half.

Flares and fireworks set off by the visitors sent a smoke cloud across the pitch and eyewitnesses reported that some objects were also aimed at players and stewards. That combination led to the game being stopped.
