Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan might be more than 50 kilos lighter than the majority of the Irish rugby squad, but that didn’t stop them from sparring with one or two of them at Carton House today.
The Irish Boxing High Performance Unit paid a visit to the Irish rugby camp in Carton House today and it wasn’t long before the gloves and the helmets came out as the best boxers from these shores went head to head with the cream of Ireland’s rugby players.
The likes of Michael Conlan, Paddy Barnes, John Joe Joyce and coach Billy Walsh were all in attendance and as well as engaging in some friendly banter and putting on the smiles for a few photographs, a few representatives from both camps went in for a little sparring as well.
Given the boxing ability of the fellas on one side and the sheer size of the lads on the other we’re not sure which camp was braver, but as far as we know, nobody was hurt in the end.
