After week, another attempt to make us and you a few quid by picking some winners this weekend.
Last week was a typically mixed bag for our treble. Two legs coasted home as Ulster proved far too strong for the Dragons and there were goals aplenty, as we predicted, in the meeting of Chelsea and Manchester United.
Sadly, the third leg went horribly wrong as the St Louis Rams curled up and died against the New England Patriots at Wembley, sinking anyone who backed the treble.
This week we have odds of almost 20/1 on the treble. Maybe just pick two if you don’t fancy one leg of this.
Robin van Persie to score at anytime, Man U v Arsenal, 10/11
Will the Dutchman come back to haunt his former employers? You have to imagine he will. RVP has carried his sensational form in Arsenal red into Manchester red and he is the joint-top scorer in the Premier League this season with Demba Ba with seven.
Aside from that, the old ‘former star returning to former club’ narrative is just too strong to ignore. He might not celebrate but facing a decidedly shaky Gunners rearguard, we expect RVP to make many of his former supporters weep into their lunch tomorrow.
Pittsburgh Steelers to beat New York Giants, 6/4
There really isn’t much to pick between these two teams. The Giants have a better record (6-2 to Steelers 4-3) but this game is going to be tight, very tight.
The odds on Pittsburgh are slightly longer as they are flying in on the day of the game as the hotel they were to stay in was closed by Superstorm Sandy but we think that will have no effect. We’re backing the Steelers to enjoy the extra night at home and take down the home side.
Reading to beat QPR, 10/3
Two winless teams meet at Loftus Road so something has to give, right? Apart from a draw of course. Look, we know both these teams are pretty rubbish but we think Reading are slightly less rubbish than Mark Hughes’ mob.
How Reading pick themselves up from their incredible 7-5 defeat to Arsenal in mid-week makes this a bit risky but we can see them doing just enough to nab a precious three points. Add in the fact that the west Londoners have been abject at home (scoring only two goals in four games) and we like this bet to land for us.
