Brian O’Driscoll’s should be fit for Ireland’s next Six Nations clash with Italy, coach Joe Schmidt has confirmed.
The former captain limped out of Saturday’s defeat to England amid fears that he had played his last international match on home soil, but he’s expected to be fine for the clash against Italy as it was only cramp.
“Brian O’Driscoll was cramp, he was walking fine after the game and trained yesterday, individually,” said Schmidt.
Peter O’Mahony’s hamstring injury is less clearcut, although Schmidt indicated that there was no tear.
Schmidt also revealed that Jonathan Sexton hurt his thumb and has returned to France. He indicated that a replacement no.10 could be drafted in against the Italians.
“It depends what happens this week. If he’s required to play Castres. It’s something we’d think about.”
