The Friday Flutter: Manchester United, Fernando Torres and the NFL

We look to the Premier League and the NFL to make us a few bob this weekend. C’mon sporting gods, do us a favour?

After last week’s treble was sunk by the under par run of Grands Crus, we decided to avoid the horses this week and stick to football of the American and Premier League kind.

This week’s treble should get you a healthy €120 in return for your tenner. If it lands of course.

Manchester United (-2) to beat QPR, 13/10

We don’t usually like handicap betting in football but Fergie’s troops at home to now managerless QPR looks like the perfect time to try this out again. After resting all the big names for the midweek trip to Turkey a refreshed and revitalised RVP and Rooney should be in the mood to tear at a defence that has shipped just shy of two per game this season.

To be honest, we could see United winning by five or six, but three will do us here.

Fernando Torres to score any time against Manchester City, 9/5

Yes we know that ‘to Torres’ has almost become a verb a poor effort on goal at this stage but if he is ever going to find the net it will be this week. With Rafa now at his side, the Spaniard will have to feel a bit better about life and the Man City defence is hardly rock solid.

It has been THE football story of the week and tales like that usually have dramatic endings. A Torres goal would fit the bill just perfectly at Stamford Bridge, cueing the Sky cameras to cut to a satisfied Roam Abramovich in the stands. It’s written folks, it’s written.

Over 48.5 points, San Francisco 49ers v New Orleans Saints, 10/11

This should be a cracking game and we expect it to be high scoring too. The Saints can score on anybody and they average just shy of 29 per game. The 49ers, with Colin Kaepernick likely to be taking the snaps, are a much more attacking team and even with Alex Smith at the helm they racked up an average of 24.5 per game.

This is a big game, one the Saints really need to win and to do it they will go for it on every drive. That should lead to points one way or the other, hopefully more than 48.5.
