The results are in from our most memorable Heineken Cup moment poll. Did you pick the winner?

A few weeks back we asked the rugby brains trust of George Hook, Donal Lenihan, Peter O’Reilly and Brent Pope to select their most memorable Heineken Cup moment from the 17-year history of the tournament.

Then we put their shortlist to you, and asked you to pick which one you thought was the most memorable. In conjunction with the Heineken Facebook page, the results are now in and we can tell you the winner.

George Hook’s selection, Munster’s 2003 victory over Gloucester at Thomond Park, the famed ‘Miracle Match’, came out on top with 1,671 votes. It was the clear winner, leaving the rest trailing in its wake.

Munster also took second spot, with Peter Stringer’s decisive try in the 2006 final, chosen by Brent Pope, garnering 384 votes.

The other two moments, Rob Howley’s final-winning try in 2004 and an epic Denis Hickie try for Leinster back in 2006, trailed in a close third and fourth.

The winner was probably not a huge surprise as the game was legendary from the moment the final whistle blew and even now, almost a decade on, it still has tremendous power.

Enjoy extended highlights of the winning moment below.

Oh, and with the Heineken Cup returning next week, keep it with JOE for lots more news, competitions, predictions and other good stuff regarding Europe’s premier club rugby competition.
